Biggest breakthrough in my 57 years of life

I have been on psych meds since 1984. This is a breakthrough. It makes sense. The book was reccomended by my family doctor who just happens to practice functional medicine. I am balancing my thyroid and testoserone and feeling much better. I was diagnosed with bi-polar and have had ECT with no help. I have gone to Recovery International meetings for the last 6 years. I have literally tried all the meds without a cure. This is a great book. I am already getting results and am off Zanax and only take 1/4 the Clonopin I used to.

THIS WORKS! Look at MY RESULTS!

I'm not an MD or a Scientist for that matter... All I can tell you is that this really works! I'm 5 weeks today into the 6 week elimination diet and I've lost 17 pounds and 2 inches from my belly, I have my 20 year old brain back as far as focus and memory are concerned, my libito and the "tools" necessary to take advantage of it are all functioning at a 25 year old level again AND I'M 52! Just in case these subjective measures don't convince you, let me give you some more objective stats: My cholesterol was at 310 before the diet, it was at 163 when I gave blood last week; My blood pressure was always around 120/80 to 130/90, last week it was 94/56!!! My resting pulse rate has dropped by about 20% over the 5 weeks as well! What I like best about Dr. Hyman's approach is that he writes for the average Joe to understand. You don't need to be a Harvard MD to get to the end of the book and know what he was talking about. He also does such a good job explaining the biochemical principals behind this program so that you DESIRE to try the program after you read the book because you understand that it will work before you even start! My 6 week elimination "diet" has now turned into a lifestyle change for me for the rest of my life! And it will do the same for you when you regain your 20 year old brain and body again, too! I highly recommend this book and I never write these reviews! Bill

THE ULTRAMIND SOLUTION is a Treasure

If you are experiencing any type of mental issues, RUN, don't walk, to get Dr. Hyman's book THE ULTRAMIND SOLUTION. How I wish I had had it in my twenties. Another life would have been possible for me, other than the nervous breakdown, the endless depression, OCD, shlepping from doctor to doctor, and spending thousands on supplements which has been my life. Avoiding dairy and gluten, as Dr. Hyman recommends, has opened up a new life for me. (Gluten is in barley, rye, oats, wheat, kamut, spelt and triticale.) I've also added Dr. Hyman's methylation supplements with good results. (Note: shop around and get the BIOLOGICALLY ACTIVE forms of B12, B6 and Folic Acid--see below for their names.) Now I'm buying copies of this book for my friends and family. There is so much unneeded suffering that can be alleviated, and the doctors don't seem to know the information in this book. I should know, as I have been to many, mostly of the alternative type, too. Ladies: follow Dr. Hyman's diet recommendations and get your hormonal issues under control with the BIO-IDENTICAL hormones he recommends, and you're in business. (See "Napro" protocol, the best; or see Dr. Andrew Jones' website and his PMS book for non-prescription sources.) The biologically active forms of the methylation vitamins Dr. Hyman recommends are as follows: B12: "methylcobalamin;" B6: "P-5-P" ((Pyridoxal-5-Phosphate); Folic Acid: 5-L Methyltetrahydrofolate or Folinic Acid, derived from Calcium Folinate (Source Naturals makes it under name "Megafolinic;" Thorne makes it under name "Folacal;" Solgar makes it under name "Metafolin" [check me on the Solgar], and it's available by prescription under name "Leucovorin" in the U.S.A.) It's important to get these because you may be a person whose body can't convert the typical forms of these vitamins into what it needs. Dr. Hyman also recommends taking daily zinc and vitamin D. A word of caution: giving up gluten-containing grains, it is easy to begin eating more animal protein. I fell into this during my early phase of following Dr. Hyman, and I felt ill from it. Because ours is such a wheat-based culture, giving up wheat can create a vacuum in one's diet, leading to consuming more animal products. Please be aware that Dr. Hyman does recommend a predominantly PLANT-BASED DIET. (For more info on benefits of plant-based diets, see The China Study, Dr. McDougall's diet, etc.)

Highly Recommended

I highly suggest this book as your next reading. I assure that for many of you it will be eye-opening. For example the information about sugar. -- You will learn that it is nothing else but a sweet tasting poison. Not only it can be responsible for diabetes but also for many other ailments, including dementia and/or Alzheimer's disease. Similarly problematic is cow's milk... The most common effects of stressful life and diet containing sugars and highly processed foods are autism, Parkinson's disease, attention-deficit disorders, and chronic fatigue -- just to name a few. Conventional treatments of these and other diseases are usually dealing with the symptoms rather then underlying problem and as a result they don't help, or just provide slight benefits. Mark Hyman suggests natural solutions to these diseases of a "broken brains". The solution is to correct imbalances in the brain. These are the imbalances created by toxins, infections, excessive stress, and most importantly by nutritional deficiencies. By changing your lifestyle you can correct these imbalances and bring back your health without drugs or psychotherapy. So get this book and read about the steps to improving your health and bringing your broken brain back to normal. Restore your energy naturally

I was privileged to be one of the participants who was chosen to undergo the Ultramind solution for six weeks prior to publication. Although it has only been 18 days since I started, the change in my energy level and my ability to concentrate is remarkable. I have been suffering from intense fatigue and trouble concentrating for the last two years, and my physicians have been unable to find a medical diagnosis for my symptoms. Being a 46-year-old graduate student, wife, mother and employee, I have to be able to concentrate for long periods of time, especially in the evenings after work. Before the Ultramind solution, I could not concentrate or stay focused past the early morning. Without knowing exactly when it occurred, I now find that my energy has been restored enough so that I can work twelve hour shifts at the hospital without fatigue and still go home and study, while retaining what I read. As a side effect, I have lost close to ten pounds without ever going hungry. Although it may sound totally impossible to remove all processed foods, sugar, dairy, trans fat, wheat and flour products as Dr. Hyman required from my diet, I have discovered that all of my prior sugar cravings have disappeared completely, even now during the hoiday season when cookies and candy abound. I snack on nuts and fruit and make sure I eat good proteins and plenty of fresh vegetables and I drink plenty of water. In the beginning I thought I would never be able to make it six weeks, but three weeks have breezed by. I am definitely going to make the Ultramind Solution a way of life from now on. Dr. Hyman's principles are simple yet effective.
