One of my favorite Lincoln Rhyme novels.

What I enjoyed most about this Lincoln Rhyme story is the Black history that is spelled out. While all of the Rhyme stories can be educational, this one was eye opening. I highly recommend it.

Excellent Book

This was an excellent book. It was a very original and a unique type of mystery. The detail behind the various CSI techniques was very interesting without being boring. The tie-in of the the historical crime to the present day crime was a very novel idea. Also the character development was very good. One reads the book and pretty much feel and relate to points of views of everyone in the book. The grittiness of the characters was also done very well.

Another Great Rhyme Novel

Mr. Deaver's "The Twelfth Card"--the title refers to the twelfth, the hanged man, card of a Tarot deck--is another of the author's Lincoln Rhyme novels and it's one of the best. Rhyme, the wheelchair bound criminalist, and his lover, Detective Amelia Sachs, must this time find out who wants to kill a (rather annoying) African American teen named Geneva Settle, who is trying to find out the fate of one of her ancestors, a freed slave who moved to New York, and was accused of a crime. Regular readers of Mr. Deaver's novels know that in his books nothing and nobody is ever as it would seem--not even the meaning of the hanged man Tarot card--and newcomers quickly catch on. Scenes that begin innocently end in action while what appears sinister sometimes turns out not to be. We learn quickly who the perp is--and he's one of the more interesting Deaver creations--and the suspense is all about when Rhyme's team will identify him, locate him, and apprehend him. Deaver knows New York City and police procedure well. And he knows how to surprise (there's even a final kicker tucked into the author's note at the end), although he always plays fair. The clues are all there for you, and the loose ends all get tied up. Notes and Asides: The publisher has chosen an unusual format for this edition. It's slightly longer (maybe an inch or so) than the standard-issue small size paperback, but no wider. (It'll stick a little farther out of the top of your coat pocket but will still rest easily inside it. The good news is that this format allows a slightly larger font size. The paper is thicker too. Excellent book!

When jeffery deaver is bad, he is really bad but when he is good he is excellent. This book falls in an excellent category. One twist and turn after the other, it will keep you guessing and on the edge of your seat. My one complaint-he doesn't spend any time on Amelia/Lincoln relationship so that was dissapointing but otherwise a must read.

Murder case that goes back 140 years!

This is only the second Jeff Deaver Novel I have read, the first being the "Bone Collector" a few years ago. No excuse as to why I have not read more Deaver as I liked "The Bone Collector" and I liked this novel "the Twelfth card." The author has a wonderful talent for the unexpected twist and or turn that makes this kind of book fun. He also does a great job of developing his characters and writing believable dialog. I think the quadriplegia Lincoln Rhyme is just great, a tough exterior but a big marshmallow inside. And an inspiration as to how he handles his Handicap. In this installment Rhyme is investigating why a man has been stalking a highschool student. Could it have something to do with the 140 year old death of the student's ancestor. I wont give away the plot but it takes off from here and leads the reader on a suspenseful tale full of thrills and twists and turns! I highly recommend "The Twelfth card" you won't be disappointed! You also might want to check out "Tourist in the Yucatan" great Mystery/thriller that has become a cult classic!
