Still a Real Treasure!

This book is the companion catalog to the Tuankhamun exhibit that toured six american museums in the late 1970's. It is rich with stunning photographs taken from the original glass negatives of the 1922 dig and vivid color photos that are still unsurpassed by todays digital imaging. The majority of artifacts of this 70's era United States tour were, unfortunately, not included in the recent 2006 exhibit. One such object is Tut's gold funerary mask that, by modern Egyptian law, can no longer leave the country. The objects included in this book are the pinnacle of artistic and aesthetic beauty recovered from the tomb and rarely seen in other volumes on Tutankhamun. The range of subject matter is wonderful in archaeological content describing each object (in the order it was excavated), historic significance and meaning of ancient Egyptian religious and cultural themes. I.E.S. Edwards, Former Keeper of Egyptian Antiquities, British Museum, has put forth a superlative commentary on the discovery of king Tutankhamuns' tomb and the world in which he lived. This book is a "must have" for anyone interested in Tut's finest objects as well as a great "mini"-reference in Egyptology. What continually surprises me is the availability of this work at a price that is reasonable and usually lower than the original modest $8.95 (US) selling tag. It is a marvelous photographic record that will keep you looking time after time into the splendor of, arguably, the most famous of Egyptian pharaohs. A MUCH better book than the latest US tour exhibit guide or souvenir books by Zahi Hawass Tutankhamun and the Golden Age of the Pharaohs: Official Companion Book to the Exhibition sponsored by National Geographic This book is available under several similar titles (hardbound too)including: The Treasures of Tutankhamun., Tutankhamun:Tutankhamun: His Tomb and Its Treasures. Just Beautiful - Stunning Pictures

If you missed the last great exhibition back in 1972 that last time he (Tutankhamun or King Tut) was here at the British Museum in London, then grab a copy of this book before he comes back again shortly I believe (in 2007 at the Millennium Dome in Greenwich, London?). You'll save a fortune and be able to prepare yourself for the delights you're about to witness. The colour pictures in this "old" book are just stunning, they make you feel as if your have these ancient and priceless relics right in front of you. A large book packed full of colour & B & W pictures and tons of history & detail about the discovery of Egypt's greatest or at least most well known of Pharaohs as well as the people (Lord Carter etc) who found him.
