It is 4 November 1922; we are about to make a great discovery.

This book is a first-person (not just any first-person) account of the discovery of the Tomb of Tutankhamun by Howard Carter. I feel like I am watching one of the old mummy movies. I am afraid this volume is a tad skimpy on pictures, but you can stop and peruse the net as you go. There is an exemplary diagram of the tomb and the burial chamber. It is an easy read and intriguing, as they tell not only of the discoveries blow by blow but also takes some time to know of the work of their rivals. We also get detailed instructions on how to handle the objects found. That is where Arthur Cruttenden Mace made sure the tomb’s contents didn’t disintegrate the moment they were exposed. ------- The original Carter/Mace work was published in multiple volumes The real publication — the one museums and Egyptologists cite — is: The Tomb of Tutankhamen Volume I — Carter & Mace Volume II — Carter Volume III — Carter These were originally issued 1923–1933. -------- “The Tomb of Tutankhamen” → usually the original multi‑volume work “The Discovery of the Tomb of Tutankhamen” → usually the modern single‑volume narrative edition
