Classic Christmas Story - Winner Of Editor's Choice Award A beautiful Christmas story about three young men who are convicted of mugging little children for their Halloween candy. Instead of sentencing them to jail, as is expected, the judge sentences them to 100 hours of community service babysitting at the Women's Crisis Center. They were prepared for jail, but they were not prepared for what was in store for them as the children opened their eyes and hearts and changed their lives.
From the back of the book: "Daris Howard is an author, playwright, and teacher living in Idaho..." My question: Why is a talented author teaching math at BYU-Idaho? You got me. I think they should put him in their English Dept. Immediately. His obvious talent is wasted on left brain duties. I would prefer to see him in the English/drama/creative writing department(s). I read his self-published book, The Three Gifts. It is worthy of being made into a Hallmark movie! Its as good as most of their Christmas-themed movies and better than some of the more recent offerings for the holiday season. It's an uplifting story that shows what I call the 'power of one'. The power of one person to make a difference in the lives of those around them. Although the story is about three guys who are sentenced to serving in a woman's crisis center, the real star of the show is Emily, the little girl they all come to love. It is a short novel and I recommend this for the holiday selection for book clubs, for gifts to people who need to feel the real spirit of Christmas, and to everyone who simply needs a fast read with good values.
Realistic, and Heart warming

It is obvious when reading this book that the author has previous writing experience as a playwright. The dialog is the strong point of the book. It is snappy and so life-like. It makes the story seem real. The teen characters are believable. I would recommend it to any teenagers that need a little Christmas spirit.(Parents will enjoy it as well.) It is an easy, enjoyable read - not too taxing for those who may be lounging on couches during Christmas break. It is a heartwarming look at what "giving" really means. -Very worth your time during a busy holiday season.
