Lonnie Burrows started life off as an outlaw and at times a most desperate man. He found himself feeling regret though for his actions in the years to come. With the influence of John Hollow weighing Lonnie down, he found himself lonely, sad, and extremely remorseful even as he still occasionally broke the law or took the law into his own hands. With grim determination, he only knew that he wanted better things in his life. He wanted the happiness that he saw others have. He wanted his parents forgiveness and he wanted them to be proud of him. In a deep seated grief over his impulsive actions, Lonnie finds himself on one adventure after another and occasionally watching sadly as old friends die and new friends drift away to living lives of their own in far away places. He watched as things changed when he resisted change. He watched as the world became a place he didn't understand anymore and perhaps he begins to realize then that he never understood it and it was all too much for him. Then he meets up with Mattie and she helps him to find out who he really is, the man inside. With her by his side and an occasional drink of absinthe, Lonnie slowly begins to change his life and himself. Aided by scriptures and a will to do what was right finally, Lonnie embarks on a spiritual adventure trying to change the man whom he was and become the man whom he wanted to be. Lonnie begins to do things that he doesn't always realize right away are making atonement's for the wrongs he has done and in doing so finds himself at odds with the man he was and the man he wants to be.
