This is a prequel to the anime series that has been such a huge hit. I have seen a couple of the episodes of the anime and this does a good job following in line with the world that has been created. In this series Honoka, the main character is starting out in her profession as a Dune Runner. She has yet to become successful and well known, like in the anime. This is more a coming of age story, with a post-apocalyptic sci-fi twist. I enjoy watching Honoka grow and deal with her insecurities. I've read some other reviews that say this is just a rehash of other post-apocalyptic stories. I say they are just tired of the story idea. I only wish they would do more with the Thirds, which are a group of beings that lord over all technology. There is only narrative reference to them on occasion. The story setting is a desert wasteland. Most of the story takes place in an almost utopian city, with little venturing out into the desert. I wish they would have done more with the harsh conditions of the desert.
