There, he meets a successful writer (Reyer) who's happily married to a Frenchwoman named Helene (Audran). Bitterly jealous, yet besotted with the beautiful Helene, he decides to ruin the couple's lives. This cunning critique of the bourgeoisie was beautifully shot by the great Jean Rabier (Purple Noon, Elevator to the Gallows).
