Students may have heard of papyrus and the pyramids, but this insightful book outlines many of the lesser known technological advancements that were the product of a fiercely creative, intelligent, and inventive ancient society. Covering such things as mummification and elaborate tombs, The Technology of Ancient Egypt is sure to keep students on the edge of their seats.
This book is part of the Technology of the Ancient World series, a group of books intended to give the younger reader a glimpse into the technology of various ancient civilizations. This book is divided into six chapters: fertility and food, the written word, means of measurement, great constructions (including pyramids), mummies and medicine and chemists and craftsmen. At the tail end of the book are an interesting timeline of Egyptian discoveries and accomplishments, a glossary, a "for more information" page of resources, and a list of books "for further reading." Overall, I found this to be an interesting book. It has a lot of bright and colorful pictures, and gives the reader a good introduction into ancient Egyptian technology. Now, as you might expect with a book written for younger readers, this book does not go into great depth, and serves only as an introduction. But, overall I did find it to be a very good introduction. So, if you have a younger reader who wants to know about ancient Egypt, and how they did the things that they did, then this is a good book for you to get.
