Now in a fully updated seventh edition, The Teaching of Science in Primary Schools provides essential information for students, trainee, and practising teachers about the why, what and how of teaching primary science.
This book has some excellent classroom vignettes to read and discuss with preservice teachers. For inservice teachers the scenes might be a place to start with ideas for teaching. The second chapter goes into a lot of detail about how the British curriculum came to be, while this has strong parallels with US curriculum development it might be a chapter for skimming rather than studying. Overall Wynn Harlen's publications are very thought provoking and have great depth of thinking.
