The Sustainable Mind

I am fifteen years old. I have lived in five cities across four countries. I have heard bombs drop from a bedroom window. I have eaten kabab on the side of a road while missiles flew overhead, surrounded by people who turned their music up because silence was not an option they were willing to accept. I have sat in a school where classmates bought Porsches in cash and drove past children climbing through garbage bins on the same street.

And I did not fall apart.

Not because I am exceptional. Because I had tools.

That is what this book is about.

For most of human history, the future was uncertain, but the skills to succeed stayed stable. Learn to farm, to forge, to build, and you could survive. That era is over. No traditional job skill is guaranteed to remain a human job anymore. The only certainty our generation has is uncertainty itself. The survival skill is no longer knowledge or expertise, it is adaptability, emotional intelligence, and the ability to reinvent yourself again and again without depleting the core of who you are.

That skill has a name. A sustainable mind.

A sustainable mind is not the absence of stress. It is the capacity to feel fear, confusion, anger, and sadness fully, without handing any of them the steering wheel. It regenerates faster than it depletes. It learns from every extreme it survives. It does not stay the same. It grows.

This book is the story of how I built mine.

It starts in Vancouver, until Covid arrived and my dad ended up in the ICU. That was the first threat I ever felt, and the four foundations my parents had quietly built, trust, belief, love, and nighttime safety, became the ground I stood on.

Then came Istanbul: my first culture shock, street cats, a city that never sleeps, and the Sensory Reset Toolbox.

Then Tehran. The heaviest chapter of my life, and the one that made me. A language I didn't speak. An academic gap on day one. A world where kids climbed through garbage bins on the same street where classmates drove cash Porsches. I had three enormous problems and no obvious way to solve any of them. So I broke each one into its smallest possible pieces and worked on one piece at a time, without ever letting myself look at the full picture. The full picture would have broken me. The pieces didn't.

In Tehran I launched Green Mind Enterprise, found allies in a design teacher and a university mentor, turned a failed cup-holder project into a tool I still use, and learned that failure is not the opposite of success. It is part of the architecture of a sustainable mind.

Then the wars came.

In the first, I learned that your network can save your mind, not just your money, that music louder than missiles is not denial, it is the most advanced form of emotional regulation I have ever witnessed. In the second, jets flew over me, my school became a bunker, and I was evacuated and then sent alone to a Vancouver basement, doing online school on Tehran time from 9 PM to 3 AM, with every excuse in the world to fall apart.

I didn't. And then the weight started to lift.

The book ends where I am now: sixteen, moving to yet another country, another school, another set of unknowns, and genuinely excited. Not because I know how it will go. Because by now I trust myself to figure it out when it gets hard.

The Sustainable Mind is not a memoir of survival. It is a field manual for the mind, written by a teenager who had to use every tool in it before he could teach it. Each chapter closes with a Toolbox Takeaway, the actual practices you can use today, whatever you are facing.

If you take only one thing from this book, let it be this: you are not too young to build this. These are not strategies for adults. They are strategies for right now. For whatever you are facing today.

You already have more of it than you think.
