"Deo Non Fortuna" ~ When The Pupil Is Ready The Master Will Appear

With the waning of the 19th century and the waxing of the 20th occultism experienced an unprecedented resurgence within Western consciousness which hasn't abated since. When one thinks of the pioneers who carried this ancient and arcane knowledge into the modern era the first person that generally comes to mind is the infamous Brit, Aleister Crowley. While the ever outrageous showman and spokesperson Crowley is the recognized face and poster child for the Western Mysteries, it's was the exhaustive, systematic approach to esoteric studies chronicled by his contemporary Dion Fortune that established the basic framework of Western metaphysics today. `The Story of Dion Fortune' by Charles Fielding and Carr Collins is a straight forward, matter-of-fact presentation of the life and work of Ms Fortune (Violet Mary Firth) that is easily assessable to adept and novice alike. The book covers: Contents: - Early Years - Mystical Experiences - Dr. Moriarty - The Occult Police - The Golden Dawn - The Beginning - The Society of the Inner Light - The Inner-Plane Adepts - Trance Contact with the Inner-Plane Adepts - Personal Life - General Society Operations - The War Years - Sexual Polarity - Departure - The Magical Body - Arthur Chichester - Personalities - Occult Writings of Dion Fortune - Conclusion Appendix: - Rising on the Planes - Elemental Ray - Colonel Seymour - The Hermetic Ray - The Guild of the Master Jesus - Celebration of Communion Being as fascinated with Ms. Fortune as I am, it's quite likely that my utter absorption in this book leads me to write a much more subjective, positive review than I would have otherwise. I do however believe that even those less attuned to such esoteric subject matter will still find the writing style of Fielding and Collins engaging and informative enough to provide the curious general audience with an enjoyable read as well.
