The Soul of Frannie Cooper spans the early life struggles of a young woman. Although born into the LDS faith, Frannie chooses to marry a German immigrant who refuses to embrace her faith or her independence. Her life choices consistently haunt her, yet through each struggle she emerges as a stronger character more deserving of our love and compassion. Bonnie Smith has done a wonderful job meshing the pioneer history of her great-grandmother with a truly delightful tale of spirit and determination.

I enjoyed Bonnie Smith's book The Soul of Frannie Cooper as much as I enjoyed Gone With The Wind. That is saying a lot but this character, from the time she was 6 years old until she finally achieved a sense of peace, was a character I admired and rooted for! I looked forward to the times when I could sit down to read it. I would highly recommend it.

After finishing Blue Mesa, Bonnie Smith's first book, I was eager to read Frannie Cooper. Bonnie has a refreshing vocabulary and is one of the best story tellers I have read in a long time. The book truly imparts a sense of what it was like in the mid 1800's for women of the west and the Mormon faith. A great read! The Soul of Frannie Cooper
