The Silver Hoop

By Rokurō Taniuchi

A radiant and gorgeously illustrated story of seaside life in Japan, by celebrated classic artist Rokuro Taniuchi

A dream-inspiring nighttime adventure for readers aged 3-8 to drift to sleep alongside

The Silver Hoop introduces a dreamy young girl in a coastal village in Japan. All around her, she sees little boys and girls racing around town with hoop toys. The hoops roll, bounce, and skip into the blue sky, and she longs for a hoop of her own. Lying in the moonlight on her soft tatami mat, the girl dreams up a glinting silver hoop. Just as she sends her wish out into the night, a magical goldfish appears above her bed, flipping its tail and urging her to follow its shimmery path. With the goldfish spirit by her side, the little girl goes on an enchanting night journey to conjure the toy of her dreams.
A classic in Japan, The Silver Hoop is a peaceful tale about the quiet power of the imagination. Rokuro Taniuchi's bright ocean blues, cherry-blossom pinks, and ember reds make one feel that they are seeing in technicolor for the first time. Young readers will love the soft radiance and vivid beauty of Taniuchi's heartfelt paintings.
