The Silk Train Murder

Sharon Rowse's first book, THE SILK TRAIN MURDER, is a historical mystery set in Vancouver, British Columbia at the turn of the 20th century. It is the 1st in a planned series starring John Lansdowne Granville, 4th son of Baron Granville, noble-born Englishman, and his "merry men" (some are women...). I did enjoy the mystery, although I did wish that it would move along a little faster at times. However, I think that the author meant for this book to set up the characters and give us a glimpse of their lifestyle and surroundings. As the book progressed, my interest in the mystery became keener and I fairly flew through the last quarter of the book. I really liked Granville and his companions Trent, Emily, Clara and Bertie. The story is well researched and I learned a lot about doings in the Pacific Northwest, a favorite place of mine, in 1899. I'll be looking for the next in this series. If you like a little history with your mystery and appreciate a bit of a Wild West setting, this is the book for you.
