I never thought I'd like a book about a sheikh but....

Dr. Jay Latimer is frustrated with the internal politics of Damhoor. Why is the Ministry of Interior ordering her to attend an interview? Weren't her credentials sufficient? Or is her presence as a foreigner the issue? Jay has many questions for her summoner but is derailed, literally, when the car she is in is forced out of the way for some officials speeding by. Little does Jay realize but this situation is about to change her whole experience... especially as she falls in love with the practically unattainable Sheik Malek Aal Hamdaan. I never thought I'd like a book about a sheikh but WOW. Olivia Gates has convinced me that sheiks can be loving, compassionate, and yes, romantic heroes. Jay is the ideal heroine for Malek as she tempers his arrogance and speaks her mind quite plainly. In fact, Jay's willingness to stand up for herself had me cheering for her throughout the book, particularly as her painful past is revealed. Jay is a true survivor. Olivia Gates brought the world of Damhoor to vivid life. The culture THE SHEIKH SURGEON'S PROPOSAL is set in isn't one normally known for its open attitude towards women and so I was worried it would leave me more angry than anything else. I should have trusted in Olivia Gates! Through the eyes of both Jay and Dr. Hessuh El-Etaibi, we get a very different perspective of women in this culture. Hessuh offers a viewpoint of a woman living in Damhoor and her willingness to share her perspective with Jay provides readers with such fascinating insight into the whole atmosphere of the tale. I particularly enjoyed the moments of humor Ms. Gates injects into the storyline. THE SHEIKH SURGEON'S PROPOSAL has some of the best lines I've ever read. I'm not one to normally go back to past pages in a book other than to search for information, but this book had lines I wanted to read, and read again. The lines are simply brilliant! Sheikh stories, stories featuring royalty of any sorts, tend to go automatically on my do not read list. Olivia Gates proves that any topic, even one normally not enjoyed by a reader, can be enjoyable in the hands of a gifted author. So set aside any ideas you've had about what a sheikh story is like as THE SHEIKH SURGEON'S PROPOSAL is exactly the sort of book that any reader who enjoys a feisty heroine should read. 5+ Stars: powerful, humorous and poetic: a gem of a romance

Jay Latimer volunteers for a medical mission in Damhoor but this intelligent, professional woman does not like being ordered to the Ministry of the Interior to have her credentials checked. Her record should speak for itself. When one of these rich arrogant men and his entourage runs her taxi off the road, it's just the last straw and no one is going to push her around --- but first she must take care of the taxi driver now in critical condition from the car accident. Once she stabilizes his condition, there is nothing else to do but stop these arrogant men in their tracks and force them to help her. Does she ever put them in their place! As one of these men assists her, providing every possible medical instrument she could need, working with her side by side, Jay discovers that Malek is not exactly who she thought he was. When Malek sees her spunkiness, a woman spunky and bold enough to see him as a man and not his title, he knows there is something special about this woman. When he sees her proficiency in medicine and her captivating eyes, he knows that she will be his first and only love. Devoted to his country and to medicine, what will he do when, suddenly, he must make a choice? Just as important, what will Jay choose? THE SHEIKH SURGEON'S PROPOSAL grabs the reader and doesn't let go. The hero/heroine encounter is one reading thrill after another. Olivia Gates writes a romance heroine whom readers can admire ---- a competent, professional woman who also cares compassionately for others. She sees Malek as a man not a title and does not hold her tongue or thoughts. Powerful, rich and royal, Malek is the kind of hero a reader expects in a sheikh romance but he is so much more. Malek respects women and loves women. He truly loves the heroine, not just for her body but for all that she is. Strong, poetic, sensual, smart and innovative, Malek uses his power to do good in the world. He stands up for all those important things whether it be saving a life or the sensual pleasures of life, but mostly Malek is a man who loves with everything he is. When Malek meets Jay, he relishes being seen as a man, a doctor, a person. For the first time, someone doesn't want a favor, someone responds to him naturally instead of dissimulating before his royal position. Hessuh is Jay's eye into the Damhoor culture. The friendship between Jay and Hessuh makes this romance an open-eyed delight as she explains to Jay some of the intricacies of providing medicine to remote locations and gives both Jay and the reader a framework within which to see the women she meets. THE SHEIKH SURGEON'S PROPOSAL captures Damhoor, intriguing the reader not just for the exotic locale but as a place to be loved. Olivia Gates peers into the culture, breaking stereotypes. Olivia Gates allows the reader to gain a glimpse into both the beauty of the culture and some of the tensions in society as modernity affects residents through her portrayal of the patients living in remote places who c

Superb medical romance

The potent feelings depicted throughout THE SHEIKH SURGEON'S PROPOSAL keep one emotionally engrossed from the first to last page. With adventurous medical emergencies and an extremely compelling romance, Olivia Gates brings her story to life with dramatic realism. There is never a lull at any moment, as one engaging scene after another grabs the reader and thoroughly entertains. Since arriving in Damhoor to do volunteer work with the Global Aid Organization by offering her skills as a doctor, Jay Latimer has encountered one problem after another. On the way to an unanticipated appointment, Jay's taxi is involved in an accident. When those who caused the mishap end up helping her with the injured driver, she is surprised by the actions of one man whom she discovers is a doctor, too. Jay is even more stunned when the man, Sheikh Malek Aal Hamdaan, turns out to be the person with whom she had a meeting. Although she experiences an almost overwhelming reaction to this charismatic man, she vows to keep things professional between them. For the first time in his life, Malek is drawn to a woman and wants to give into the attraction he feels for Jay, despite the consequences. As one of the royal family members of his country, he knows his future is already set and cannot ever state to this dynamic woman what he truly desires. However, his heart is demanding he not listen to his mind, so Malek continuously finds reasons for them to be together. With her straightforward way of putting across her opinions, he is completely fascinated with this woman who seems to not care about his status in the desert kingdom, only seeing him as a man. As Malek and Jay share important aspects of their backgrounds with each other, the mutual desirability they feel for each other continues to grow while their destinies unfortunately never alter. The stories by Olivia Gates hold the reader captive with each eagerly anticipated word. Regardless of the subject, this gifted author portrays scenes in a believably convincing way, giving credibility to the circumstances surrounding every occurrence. In THE SHEIKH SURGEON'S PROPOSAL, there are always vivid descriptions to clarify details of every incident faced by Malek and Jay. Whether the moment is packed with split-second medical decisions or filled with powerful emotions, the reader gets a complete picture of everything confronting this couple. With her medical background, Ms. Gates lets one know the seriousness of any crisis which heightens the anxiety. The added bonus of urgent situations out of a hospital makes the story even more enthralling with the suspenseful action accompanying these often frightening dilemmas. When it comes to emotional issues between Malek and Jay, they frequently find themselves on a roller-coaster of highs and lows, as the intense feelings between them build while their lifelong beliefs keep them from expressing their true longings. When the control over their desire for each other breaks, the s
