I've read many Kim Lawrence books, and I'm not often disappointed. This was a nice, quick read. Pleasant. Some intrigue; some steam- not much romance. I felt it lacked depth. The storyline was sound- it had potential to be more than it was. The female lead, Rachel, was far too defensive, very aggressive in her attempts to thwart the male lead, Ben. Her character did not appeal to me; she seemed naive- in the way of lacking maturity, judgmental, obstinate and beyond rigid. Lacked direction and a game plan- which seemed odd since she was a single mom. I enjoy stories of working women; but I found Rachel unprofessional, if indeed intelligent enough to grasp the demands of her position and mastery of three languages. Her daughter, Charlie, was a delight! And a much better judge of character than Rachel! Ben was an interesting mix of vulnerable and carefree former playboy. Quirky, perhaps. He had some light-hearted dialogue I appreciated. The supporting characters were well sketched, well done. Overall, it was a nice story and I enjoyed it- but my preferences lie in a more meaningful tale- more depth, more personal growth in the characters.
