Book Overview

An engaged couple discovers a magical movie theater that challenges what they know about themselves--and each other--in this nostalgic and "utterly engrossing" (Margarita Montimore, USA TODAY bestselling author) debutthat is perfect for fans of The Midnight Library and In Five Years.

At the end of a dark alley, a magical cinema glitters with The Story of You on the marquee. When Ellie and her fianc , Drake, stumble upon it during a late-night walk, they're shocked to discover what's playing inside the red-velvet auditorium: their formative memories.

Uneasy about what the theater might reveal, Drake hesitates, but Ellie, haunted by a fractured night from her past she can't fully remember, insists they return. As their memories projected on the screen inch closer to the present, they realize they're both keeping secrets from each other.

With their wedding on the horizon, Ellie and Drake must decide if revisiting their pasts will alter their vision of a future together.

"Magical, cozy, and romantic" (Meg Shaffer, USA TODAY bestselling author), The Second Chance Cinema is both an enchanting escape and a thoughtful exploration of how memory shapes who we are--and who we choose to be.

A wonderfully magic read!!

This is—hands down—one of the best books I’ve read in a long, long time. I am so glad I picked this as my book of the month for October!! For someone who goes down the road of thinking about “what ifs” all the time, then this book is for you. What if you and your future partner were to happen upon a movie theatre that shows snippets of the most important pieces of life that shaped you today? Would you be able to handle it? This is what this book is about. After the most significant memory played of Ellies, I had to close the book to breathe for a little bit. The details in all the memories had enough to picture the whole bit and it was not overdone. There were a few predictable moments in there where I guessed what would happen but I don’t know if that’s due to me being a writer and reader too…chalking it up to that’s where my mind would’ve gone too. The characters are all likeable in ways and they seem real. All of this is relatable to people’s lives from the secrets spilling out to the memories to the feelings and down to everything. I think what really had me feeling and gasping for air at some points was the dialogue about writing or being a writer. I fight with myself over some of the points made and it just really hit home. I also love shopping at thrift stores and end up finding my favorite possessions that way. Being able to give that second chance - in real life to a person or buying things is a good feeling. I also love the concept of breathing life back into a business by writing about it and it becoming a part of a story. Now that’s an amazing storyline.
