The Seagull's Nest

It's a family saga.
It's a beach read.
It's a most unusual coming-of-old-age story.

For Leo Walker, life is "routine" since becoming a widower two years ago. His eldest daughter, Eve, thinks he's in a horrible rut; he doesn't socialize or putter around the house like he used to. Despite her nagging encouragement, Leo won't budge. He's too worried about a crisis brewing at his accounting firm.

Over the holidays, he gets inspiration from younger daughter Claire: "Go visit Seaglass Cove, the Oregon beach town where we used to vacation." Leo thinks the escape might help; if he can just hear the ocean, smell the brine, and feel the wind rushing through what little hair he has left, perhaps he can deal with his problems.

He drives there and gets an idea to pop in at the motel where they always stayed: The Seagull's Nest. When he finds the place dark and deserted, he learns the motel was closed because it had fallen on hard times and is now for sale.

And that's where Leo's adventure begins.
