In this charming tale, a woman gets transported to a fantasy world and pursues her own quest: opening a book cafe! Tsukina is a single, thirty-something office worker whose favorite thing is curling up with a good book. When a god tells her that she must go to another world to become its magical savior, Tsukina isn't interested. She has zero desire to go on some grand hero's journey. So when she arrives in this strange new land, she decides to use her magical powers to create a cozy little book caf? instead. Her first customer is a handsome soldier who loves reading almost as much as she does. But when a fellow "savior" starts causing trouble, Tsukina might have to play the hero after all!
A delightfully fun twist on a classic theme. I enjoyed this book and am buying the sequel. My sister enjoyed it as well! This is a tale will be proud to share with my friends.
This is truly a bookworm's dream.

Saving the world from monsters with all-powerful magic seems fun when you're young, but average thirty-something Tsukina, (one of this world saviors,) would rather spend her days practicing high level magic, reading books and drinking tea, nestled away in a beautiful quiet book café. And when her first (and only) customer, the handsome Knight Captain Il, another bookworm, comes by daily, why would she want to leave? The only problem is when another savior shows her young age and doesn't want to fulfill the duties that come with the title, will Tsukina be forced to reveal her secret as a savior to save her new home?
I absolutely love this series! With just the first book in, I'm already hooked! I like how it's told from seemingly dual perspectives between Tsukina and Il, it has the atmosphere of a novel in that regard, which brings you even more into this world. Granted, it should be noted that this series was originally a novel and got adapted as a manga, which is probably where that feeling comes from.
Everything from the characters, their personalities and design, and the beautifully detailed artwork of the world and the book café is absolutely stunning! There's even minor down-to-earth details, like paying for a meal at the café, that really grounds the fantasy to make the story feel real.
I cannot wait to dig into this already-know-its-too-short 5 volume series.
