The Rough Start Guide to Becoming a Cryptozoologist
Could an unknown animal still be waiting to be discovered? What would it take to investigate the evidence properly, and could that investigation become a profession?
The Rough Start Guide to Becoming a Cryptozoologist examines the search for unidentified animals through zoology, wildlife research, scientific evidence and the practical realities of independent investigation.
From Bigfoot and the Yeti to Orang Pendek, surviving thylacines and mysterious aquatic creatures, this comprehensive guide explores how extraordinary wildlife reports develop, why certain cases remain unresolved and what evidence is required to establish a genuine zoological discovery.
Readers will discover how to conduct historical research, interview witnesses, assess habitats, organise fieldwork, employ wildlife survey methods, collect physical evidence and evaluate findings through recognised scientific techniques.
The guide also examines the professional and commercial opportunities associated with cryptozoological investigation. Subjects include developing investigative skills, training, equipment, expedition planning, professional responsibilities, research funding, sponsorship and establishing an independent practice.
Additional reference material includes geographical directories of reported cryptids from around the world, a specialist glossary, academic references and a detailed index.
Written for aspiring cryptozoologists, naturalists, wildlife enthusiasts, students and independent researchers, this substantial guide provides an evidence-led introduction to an unconventional subject.
Rather than promising extraordinary discoveries, it explains how to investigate extraordinary claims responsibly and develop the practical capabilities required for serious field research.
