In his third collection of poetry Elias Siqueiros has gone to great lengths to explore the various aspects of formalism while maintaining a modernistic language and view of the world. The poet has taking on traditional English meters and the use of rhyme while also engaging syllabic meters more common to Romance languages. All the while one feels the poet is loose with his new styles, moving in and out of presences like an actor on a stage. The use of science fiction tropes appear in this collection, most notably in the sequence of sonnets Dispatches From A Future Colony and the long poem The Replacements from which this collection takes its name. The result is a poetic language to give the twenty-first century a new poetic direction.
