The Proper Lover: Poems

The Proper Lover is the first collection of poems by William Gough. It is unlikely to be his last. Here is a poet who speaks with a mature, recognizable voice about subjects of interest. This collection will win for the author a following in poetry to match that in fiction earned by his novel Maud's House published by Breakwater Books and now in its second printing. The poems in The Proper Lover recall the author's upbringing in Newfoundland. They look back with nostalgia and wry humour on events in the past and then go fast forward into the Toronto present to savour the everyday pleasures of adult life.
