Claudyne Wilder takes the art of giving effective presentations and breaks it down into ten logical steps, offering different formats, each designed for specific audience and objective needs. Updated to include vital information on the wide array of software available for presentation purposes, she explains the various options available and how to rate and choose the best for a particular presentation need. The focus is upon how to use software to enhance, not run, a presentation, and includes many new examples of specific presentation situations and how they should be handled.
The Presentations Kit is fairly comprehensive in that it covers the technical aspects of public speaking in a straightforward manner - everything from posture, voice, what to/not to eat and drink prior to, and environment, among other things. It also covers the art aspect - the intangibles that in my opinion really help a presenter nail a talk. Overall a great book but there are some areas that could have been improved upon. The design of the book was fairly plain, which if improvements were made in the overall visuals of the book would really help to solidify the author's message. In addition I would have liked to have seen more focus on the "art" aspect of presenting as this is where the magic occurs - presently only one chapter is dedicated to this. Finally, many of the technology aspects of the discussion, for example overhead projectors and transparencies, are fairly dated. A great book with sage advice and highly recommended for those wishing to improve their public speaking skills, but the improvements would put it over the top.
