The positive spillover effect

Learning requires the interaction of many cognitive skills. Engaging intensively with different content and practising repeatedly leads to this content being stored and retained in a stable manner. The training effect and the transfer effect are the subject of current research and are being studied extensively. This study examines the transfer effect in Year 4 pupils following an intervention involving eight weeks of practising multiplication tables. It investigates whether performance in multiplication and division improved.
