The story of Jesus entering the temple and driving out the merchants and
moneychangers are a powerful reminder of the importance of remaining true to the call and purposes of the church.
Just as the merchants and money changers were more concerned with making
a profit than with worshiping God, there are individuals and institutions
within the church that prioritize personal gain over the well-being and
spiritual growth of their congregation. This can manifest in various forms
including financial corruption, sexual abuse, and misuse of power.
However, just as Jesus took action to cleanse the temple, it is up to us as
believers to hold those in positions of authority accountable and work
towards creating a church environment that is free from perversion and
focused on the love and teachings of Christ.
