A must read!

I not only bought this book - but I've seen Dr. Pennington give a speach at a conference. This book inspired me to pull myself out of my depression!

Very well done and very helpful

I just finished reading my copy. Very helpful in terms of motivation toward wellness (body, mind, and spirit). For the reviewer who condescendingly refers to Dr. Pennington as "sweetie", there really is very little new under the sun. Virtually all nonfiction books are rehashing of known material. If someone finds a better or more effective way to say something, go for it !! Meanwhile, this is a book that I would recommend to my patients seeking a healthier lifestyle.

More than just a book...

I think Dr. Pennington has hit upon a success in this book. It's an introduction to health as a philosophy and a practice. I have to disagree with the previous comments regarding Dr. Phil and Mr. Phillips...none of them especially addresses the health African-American community as Dr. Pennington does.

INSPIRING and easy to read!

I am so happy to read a book by a medical doctor that respects that we are not just physical bodies that require drugs or medication to be well! This book has inspired me and helped me put together what I've suspected for years - that my health is tied to my emotions and how my mind works. I recommend this book highly - it's more grounded than stricly spiritual books but much more helpful and practical than the typical medical books. No medical jargon or confusing terminology here! I am giving this as a gift to my mom who has diabetes, too. I have been to so many 'healers' and never gotten all of the answers to my health questions, then I stumbled on this book and it's like a bright light has been turned on inside of me! I can understand how powerful I really am and how I can take control of my health and wellbeing. Dr. Pennington's description of how stress is tied to weight gain and digestive problems (a patient story in the book) very closely mirrors my situation. I began using the techniques that she described in the book and I've enjoyed the first weekend NOT laying in bed in pain. I can definitely say that I'm a believer in her plan. This is a must-read! I hope to visit her wellness Institute some day as well.
