The Payback Assignment - Austin Camacho does it Again!!!!

Austin did an awesome job using creative imagination with the Payback Assignment. Just when you think Austin's running out of energy to write another vivid scene, think again! Throughout the book there is a constant change of events with twists and turns never imagined. Austin includes a plethora of dramatic scenes, punch lines, and a means of escape for the characters - all for your enjoyment. Throughout the book there are some borderline magical events but in the real world we simply refer to them as "a coincidence." However, this book is a depiction of what it really means to stretch your imagination and at the same time remain believable. Austin's writing style includes the depth and clarity that simulates the appearance of actually sitting in front of a movie screen.

Cool Adventure

The Payback Assignment, a departure from the popular Hannibal Jones series by author, Austin Camacho, is truly what the doctor ordered for all you adventure-story junkies interested in the same ol' genre sprinkled with a new twist -- the macho man protagonist actually shares the limelight with a ... gasp! ... female. I'm not talking hero/sidekick action here, either. Morgan Stark, the male "hero," or anti-hero of "Payback" is living the life of a typical loner, takes-no-prisoners mercenary who does what he pleases, when he pleases, with whom he pleases. Enter, Felicity O'Brian -- beautiful loner, takes-no-prisoners jewel thief who's crossed by a nefarious big shot who just so happens to have crossed Morgan as well. The way Camacho connects the two and starts them on their "Payback Assignment" is as engaging as the unfolding of the story. Though feminine, Felicity is no feline afraid of a broken nail or bad-hair day. She winds up saving Morgan's bacon as many times as he saves hers. Whew... how refreshing. I personally had a slight problem with Felicity's reaction to a murder that takes place in her home in one of the chapters. She seems to revert to a "oh-my-gosh-is-he-dead" kind of female thingy... but, all things being equal, Felicity is a jewel thief, not a gun slinger... so it's something that I can definitely overlook. Overall, "The Payback Assignment," is a cool adventure that doesn't insult the reader's intelligence, but still provides an exciting romp of intrique for thoes wanting to snuggle in and relax with something breezy for a Saturday afternoon.

Meeting of well met Friends

After meeting the author and sharing reading adventures from our past (The Executioner, The Destroyer, and The Death Merchant as well characters from a more distance past)I was impressed with the person and so I purchased this particular work. After reading The Payback Assignment I was impressed with the author.I completely enjoyed the adventure Morgan and Felicity took me through and totally appreciated the bond they developed throughout the story. The esp connection was a unique twist. Mr Camacho has developed characters that I would visit again andI look forward to going along with them on their next adventure. Thank you for your time and talent Austin. Robert Smith Baltimore MD

Red Hot Action

Felicity and Morgan came from different worlds yet they shared magical, almost mystical, powers of sorts. Both were on the top of their games and both were had -- and they had had enough!! Thus, the Payback Assignment works its way to its predictable conclusion. Or does it? There's really only one way for YOU to know, isn't there? That's right. You guessed it. Get the book. It's worth the read.

What goes around comes around, and payback is a -----

What happens when a gorgeous Irish jewel thief and a hardened American mercenary are double-crossed by the same employer and then join forces? Austin Camacho's The Payback Assignment is a 230-page answer to that question, and a very fun and satisfying answer at that. The story line runs at a nice pace from caper to caper, from danger to danger, or from firefight to firefight, until the reader is running right alongside the characters. And best of all, there is a wee bit of the paranormal included. With an ending that could segue perfectly into a second book, one can only hope this is the kick-off for a new series!
