a patch of blue

the book is about a blind girl who lives with her prostitute mother and drunk grandfather. selina does everything around her house, and her mother hates her and yells at her. she had a very bad life and until one day she was brought to the park and met gordon, who she falls in love with. the problem is that Selina has been brought up to dislike african americans, and she doesn't know that gordon is dark skinned.I thought i was a very good book. i"m reading it in english class, and the majority of the class (especially the guys) seem to not like A Patch of Blue, but i found it very engaging. the only problem for me was that the language Selina uses is like old-fashioned slang and sometimes it took me a while to realize what she was saying. and the end of the book was a little confusing.

A Patch of Blue was a outstanding book. I don't feel it is a good book to read in school though. I felt it was very racial and i think you should take the time and read it alone. The ending of the book was very prejudiced and may hurt many people. I thought it was amazing how Selina fell in love with Gordon not knowing his race or the way he looked. Even though she grew up being racist Gordon taught her that she didn't have to be. She realized color didn't matter and i liked that alot about the book and i think it can teach people alot.
