The Order
Wendy survived the mountain. So did the thing inside her.
The Sylvan Order gives her a bed in a hospital that isn't a hospital - clean sheets, gentle hands, nurses in white cloaks, and no other patients. They tell her the demon was cast out on the mountain. They tell her the old Wendy stayed up there, and she is someone new.
Her demon is still talking.
Smiles show teeth. Soft hands steer her away from the longer halls. Doors lock from the outside.
They call it healing. They call it grace. Wendy knows a debt when one is swinging just above her throat.
They want something. They have everything.
So she stays. She takes their food, their rules, their training - because the Order knows where the mountain is, and the mountain is the last place she saw Cassie.
She intends to find out what they are owed, before they find out the thing growing inside her has plans of its own.
