Based on the Greek myth of Proteus, the Oracular Old Man of the Sea, the god of elusive sea change protects travelers along their perilous journey across the morphing sea. Proteus calls himself "The First" as he recalls seeing the ocean change for the first time and an ancient lighthouse that can guide him home. He wishes to return to the beginning of his journey, which he believes spans centuries and even millennia. He remembers seeing the sea morph for the first time all those years ago, and he aims to recapture this moment.
