Delightful History and Science of a Filthy Subject

"The Not So Little Book of Dung" is an excellent book covering millions of years of dung for people of all ages. Wright moves dung to a new level by taking a semi-taboo subject and investigating it from top to bottom and beginning to end with openness and honesty and shamelessness. Wright's writing is clear and concise, and, contains much solid information as well as anecdotes. Wright explains the mythology, history, science, chemistry, biology, architecture, culture, and more of the production, use, and removal of dung. Wright takes dung and follows it from dinosaurs to today. Wright explains dung's value as a repository for history and biology, and, as an essential ingredient to life. Wright even explains the dung-related origin of some of our most common idiomatic expressions. (You may never snap your fingers, again.) Wright also uses quotations from prose and poetry, biography and history to explain attitudes towards (and untowards) dung. Wright has photographs from around the world to show dung, its uses, and its demise. Wright's explanations might illuminate and reorient what you already know or attach dung to what you've already seen. Two Cons: 1. The photos and captions seem to be out of phase and almost detract from the text. 2. It's too short! Give me more (book, not dung)! "Dung" is a delightful book on a filthy subject. You'll giggle, gasp, giggle, groan, giggle, golly, and giggle, again.
