Quick and easy reference guide

I was not given alot of information when I was newly diagnosed. I found this book at the local library along with 14 others on the subject. I bought this book because its a great little guide for quick references on what to eat. It has been helpful.

Fantastic

This is a great book! I was leery at first, but as I read through it, and began to understand the Science and Theory behind the GI and Metabolic Syndrome, I decided to give it a try. I am now six weeks into the LOW GI Plan, (Please buy the shoppers guide, it makes finding the right items easier.) and I have gone from a 40+ waist to a 36 waist and I have lost 17 pounds. I recently had a new blood test, and my glucose, triclycerides and LDL are lower and my HDL is higher. My doctor asked what I had done, and I told him about this program. He had heard of it, but none of his patients have tried it. He now plans to further his research into this program and recommend it to other patients. If you have Metabolic Syndrome, please give this book and it system a try. You DO NOT want to become diabetic. All you have to loose is your battle with diabetes and become insulin dependant.

Low Gi Weight Lose

Taking the fear out of diabetes

Before I got this book I was working in the dark as far as my newly diagnosed condition was concerned. I had advice from doctors but could not gauge the real effects of food on my sugar levels. This has released me from what was seeming like a lifetime of imprisonment within a very narrow diet. Now I eat ice cream occasionally and cream, knowing that the rest of my diet will balance out any negative effects. This is freedom ! Now here I come (again) world ! And, of course, I feel better than I have done for years.

I'm ordering copies for several friends and family!

This book is very easy to read in spite of the rather complex subject matter. I especially am enjoying the way the authors explain just WHY metabolic syndrome is something to be worried about, and how different foods are digested differently. Some of it is shocking, which is really helping motivate me to make dietary changes. Many concrete behavioral suggestions as well, such as "instead of eating whole wheat bread, eat whole *grain* bread," things I hadn't previously even been aware of. After awhile I might want to get a bigger, more detailed book, but this book is a great place to start. I ordered it along with a low-GI cookbook. I look forward to making some of those recipes this weekend.
