Oliver Twist meets The Hunger Games

Although there are scenes of horrific brutality, the author keeps the reader so far removed from them they barely made me think about them. I liked the overall premise of a trained assassin turning their training to benefit people who started life like themselves. The detectives were less well-rounded, almost one dimensional. I’m not sure I’d read another one in the series, but the theme of this one was intriguing.
