I've read this book to my 10yr old and 12 yr old daughters as a further explanation on the "Joyful mysteries of life" (an excellent book BTW) with the emphasis on Childbirth and Development of the baby. I do agree that the 'in the flap' info is advanced reading for a young child. I would target age around 10 and up with judicious explanations from the parents. However, it is very informative and even taught me some things I didn't know (pregnant with my 5th child so I'm somewhat of an 'expert'! LOL) The pictures are simply breathtaking and I'm considering purchasing my own used copy for the photos alone! They should be framed... My most favorite aspect of the book (beyond the photos) are the tender references to God. They are not preachy or overtly religious, but instead heartfelt and loving. They remind us of the goodness of God and how truly special and "wonderfully made" each of us are! This is one book you want to keep in your home library especially if you have a big family (or are starting one of your own! LOL)

A Wonderful Explanation of Pregnancy for Young Children

This is one of my favorite books about the story of conception, pregnancy & birth. The illustrations are soft and beautiful. The material covered is treated with sensitivity, yet the information is thorough enough to satisfy a curious young mind. The intent of the author is to show that God (non-specific) planned each unique person before they were conceived, and shows in great detail the growth of the baby from fertilization through birth (vaginal only), and breastfeeding. The "Facts of Life", however, are not explained here, beyond that the sperm comes from the father's penis & enters the mother's uterus. One really charming feature of "The Miracle of Life" is that the main text is in story form, while the more technical illustrations & explanations are hidden under a flap on the right side of each double page spread. I have read this book to each of my children to help them understand pregnancy & encourage a bond with their developing sibling while I am pregnant.(I am currently pregnant for my 6th.) My personal feeling is that even very young children (age 3+) have an amazing ability to grasp the information they want/need, & discard what they don't understand, without being freaked out. I highly recommend this book.
