The story begins at Kahiltna, one of the major glaciers in Alaska, where explorers enter a crevasse along the west side of East Fork that the group has long wanted to explore. As they begin mapping the structure, an earthquake causes a massive cave-in. They barely escape. On their return, they discover something unexpected: a prehistoric bull that is the size of a mammoth.

Research in cloning goes wild in a university lab when partial DNA recovered from the frozen horn of the ancient bull is spliced with that of a genetically bred aurochs female standing over six feet at the shoulder. Hell breaks loose when the frozen bull revives to claim his own.
