Robinson Delivers a Hit

I wasn't sure I would like this book because until this last election I only had a casual interest in politics, campaigning and the like. I was interested in this book mostly because it was set in the area I live and I do love a great suspense thriller however. Robinson met all of my expectations, and I found myself not being able to put this book down. I'm ready to read more and can't wait to read his new book, Sniper Bid.

TMC is worth the read

A master storyteller, Rick Robinson has produced a terrific political thriller. Rick has put together many stories and lessons from his years in politics and woven them into a gripping novel. In addition to the story, there many good lessons for political candidates throughout the book. If you enjoy politics, you will enjoy this book.

Excellent - page turner...

The Maximum Contribution was both very interesting and a bit concerning... With Rick Robinson's years in politics, you cannot help but wonder which of the situations are based on his real-life experiences! Definitely a page-turner and one that I would highly recommend for a fast paced, attention-grabbing read. I just pray we have many representatives in DC working on our behalves that are just like Richard Thompson.

What a treat!

A great read! With politics swamping the media now, this first novel by Rick Robinson gives us, the voter, an insight into the process of running for office. The story is a fast paced adventure, detailing obstacles of a campaign trail, and the challenges faced by a candidate with convictions that are more important than winning the race! Without a doubt, Richard Thompson has my vote!

TMC is a knock out!

In his first offering as a novelist, Rick Robinson delivers a knock out punch with his political thriller, "The Maximum Contribution". Fast paced and heady, it's a page turner that's hard to put down. "TMC" follows the election campaign of Richard Thompson, a small town Kentucky councilman who gets a shot at the big leagues, when his political mentor, Congressman Garrett Jackson dies in office and he becomes the nominee for Jackson's seat in the House of Representatives. Thompson appears to be riding a crest to Election Day victory, when he stumbles upon an issue which plunges him into a seedy morass of blackmail and greed, replete with power hungry politicians, corrupt lobbyists, gun-running Anti-Castro union officials, and an on-going FBI sting operation. The story is that of the quintessential quest for Self. Thompson, a true believer, must decide what price he is willing to pay for his victory. Will he remain steadfast in his convictions, or "play ball" in order to do the highest good, once he's elected? Robinson, an attorney, former Legislative Director and Chief Counsel to then-Congressman Jim Bunning, and a one time Congressional Candidate himself, is no stranger to the political arena. His knowledge and expertise in spearheading campaigns and getting people elected, in Kentucky, borders on the legendary. But if you think this tale is filled with a lot of boring, dehydrated legalese, think again. His conversational style is both fluid and engaging, evoking a wide range of emotions from the guttural to the sublime. His true genius, however, lies in his uncanny ability to easily and effortlessly explain, in plain English, the otherwise esoteric machinations of the campaign trail. He knows politics from the inside out and takes the reader to places seldom seen: behind the glad-handing, talking points and thirty-second sound bites proffered by the media complex. In addition to being a hard-boiled political thriller, "TMC" could just as easily be a handbook for any candidate looking to run an effective election campaign. Ultimately, "The Maximum Contribution" is a story about living by the courage of one's convictions and the price one pays in doing so. In the current Presidential election cycle, we the voters are bombarded endlessly with empty platitudes and egregious pandering to every special interest and focus group in sight. While we sit back scratching our collective heads wondering why Washington continues to sell the country out from under us, Rick Robinson gives us some compelling insight through his allegorical narrative. As in life, politics is a dynamic interplay of virtue and vice, with concession being the currency of balance. Apparently, more often than not, honor, duty and loyalty are subjugated by power, lust and greed with the noblest of intentions. With Robinson's protagonist Thompson, we get a glimpse of the "true believer", one whose faith is unshakable in the face of seemingly insurmountable odds. Given the cu
