DELIGHTFULLY INTRIGUEING

Taylor Matthews went with her husband, Jack to view the ranch of one thousand nine hundred and twenty acres of rugged beauty at High Mountain. El Rancho del Diablo - the Devil's Ranch with rumored ghosts and hauntings. Jack had to hired Cole Reynolds, a half Jumano Indian to guide them into the rugged area to the edge of the canyon. The gorge was so deep even the noontime sun couldn't penetrate the shadows in the bottom. Taylor heard the faint jingle of a halter and then a red spot blossomed on her shoulder. "I've been shot!" All hell broke loose. Death and destruction. Two years later she finally returns and tries to hire Cole again to take her to the canyon for closure. Cole and his dog start to make inroads into her lethargic heart. For some reason someone wants to scare everyone away from the ranch. Taylor decided to list the ranch for sale with the realtor, Jim Henderson. Cole wonders why his half-brother, Teo shows up now and then on the ranch. Teo is full blooded Jumano and head of the Indian Council. He is the one to authenticate any artifacts found in the area. He is also married to Beryl, a woman who promised to wait for Cole to return from military service. The sheriff, J. C. Shipley wasn't stupid but he pooh-poohed most of the "accidents" that were happening to Taylor. Must be the local kids. Slashed tires - destruction of her motel room - lost brakes - but hey, no suspects? Two injured people trying to find trust and love - and stay alive - neat mystery - great action - who is the cold blooded killer? HIGHLY RECOMMENDED --m -- need to know more about the Jumanos'

Superb romantic suspense

Jack Matthews is so proud of how far he has come. His wife Taylor is even more proud of the success of her beloved husband. However, she has some doubts about the almost West Texas two-thousand acre ranch he purchased that has poor accessibility. Local guide Cole Reynolds escorts the couple on foot to Diablo when someone fires shots at them. Jack is killed and a wounded Cole barely carries a severely injured Taylor off the mountain. She recovers in a small hospital before returning to her Houston home. Two years later, Jack's business partner Richard Williams pressures Taylor into marrying him. She delays her answer as she realizes she needs closure. As Richard travels to Europe on business, Taylor returns to High Mountain to confront her demons. She pleads with Cole, but he initially refuses because of his damaged hip. It is a reminder of their previous trek and does not allow overnight wilderness trips. Still, he fears for her life and finally acquiesces to take her back to the sight of the incident. Unbeknownst to either of them, trouble still lurks around the corner and danger mounts. As their lives spiral further into jeopardy, the intrepid duo fall in love. However both realize that they must first deal with the mortal danger they face from an unknown assailant and subsequently they must put to rest the ghost of her beloved Jack. THE MAN FROM HIGH MOUNTAIN is an exciting romantic intrigue that sub-genre readers will find very entertaining. The story line is fast-paced and filled with action. The lead protagonists are a wonderful pair that will garner much empathy. Though the villain seems a bit too obvious in a butler did it kind of way, Kay David provides readers with an entertaining, sizzling story.Harriet Klausner
