The Making of an Uncommon Man

Synopsis "Making of an Uncommon Man" Joseph Scott Bewley emigrated from England to America in 1886, when he was 21 years old. For whatever reason he came out to Atchison, Kansas and decided to stay. He became an important man in Atchison's history. He was well- liked and became well respected. More important, he built a family, and their lives paralleled the history of Atchison and America. The story centers on two central characters of the second generation, Joseph James, Jr. and William Edward Bewley. Referred to as Jimmy and Billy, at least until their father died. The story starts when Jimmy is born. He was only around his paternal grandfather, Joseph Scott, 84 days before the great gentleman died. But Jimmy grew into manhood with the subtle influence of his grandfather, father, and uncles to be the kind of man that other men looked up to. He was never rich in money. Like his grandfather, he was always rich in friends. His life was adventure that he never stopped living until the day he died.
