The Major and the Librarian by Nikki Benjamin

Description from the book back cover: One last chance ... For four years Major Sam Griffin had stayed away from Serenity, Texas, gruffly avoiding the fact that he was still heartachingly in love with the woman who almost married his brother. Now home on leave, the devastatingly handsome pilot had to face the beautiful Emma Dalton again. And even though there was unmistakable yearning in her eyes, Sam could never put down the roots he knew the shy librarian so strongly craved. Yet when Sam finally had the chance to win the heart of the woman he'd always loved, could he convince Emma that her home would always be where he was?

good brainless read

This book is a good read for when you need a break. It has romance and tragedy. This book has no deepseated problems for you to solve. It is just a good realaxing book

Social commentary and smut!

Rarely does a work of fiction resonate as strongly as this one. On one level, it dissects the social construct known as 'the relationship' and extracts meaning from the guts of love. And yet, at another level, the work is a bitter commentary of the incompatible forces that wrack our world. The Major is obviously an embodiment of the modern industrial military complex, who has a few complexes of his own. The Librarian represents the faltering non-profit co-operative forces of the modern world --- forces which are feeling unloved and unsupported but continue to give and give and hate themselves for secretly wishing for capital and attention to come and sweep their troubles away.It is when the Librarian realizes that the man in her loving arms is a loving arms dealer that there is both pain and pleasure from sleeping with the enemy.
