For those who want a wide look at design of a century

I must admitt that in my late thirties I developed a passion for design (industrial) and a its evolution.. naturally this leads to antique hunting where ever you go.. I was very pleaed with this book because of its wide coverage of industrial design. Higaly recommeded as reference.

Unbelievably Affordable

An unbelievably low-priced 500-page paperbound survey of the evolution of design since 1900. Of particular value are the number and variety of its full-color illustrations of every conceivable kind of design (kitchen and dining room, clothing, transportation, graphics and more), arranged in a flashy yet functional way with every turn of the page. The concluding section offers 40 pages of brief biographical entries about major designers. (Copyright © by Roy R. Behrens, from Ballast Quarterly Review, Vol 15 No 2, Winter 1999-2000.)

I love this book

I bought this book for a December birthday for a friend of mine, and I loved it so much, that I ended up later buying a copy for myself. As a business student and a design fan, I just love the way they categorized all the products and then walked your quickly through the looks of the past 100 years.Great for nostalgia and history buffs.

Great for a quick overview of the history of design!

While I was in school, earning a master's degree in industrial design, I found this book very helpful as a quick resource. The pictures are fantastic! Other students were constantly borrowing my book.

1 Picture = 1000 Words

The best way to make a point about how something looks is to simply show it to us, and that's exactly what this book does best. I did percieve a slight European bent in some sections, but that may just be my own pesky American prejudices, and it did nothing to interfere with my reading enjoyment. Fascinating reading or browsing (this book would make a great CD-ROM) for anyone interested in the evolution of so many things we may take for granted
