Wonderfully useful

This book gets scoffed by people who don’t WANT to declutter, taking her ideas out of context to discredit her advice. She does not say to get rid of everything you own or to go through essential household items like cutlery and kitchen utensils. It’s about recognizing what you do/don’t need, what you hold onto “just in case” or out of obligation/guilt, and letting those things go. It helps you not constantly clean the house over and over and things pile up, and is *great* for everyone— and especially people with anxiety or ADHD.

Quick read that motivates!

I got the hardback, & its a smaller sized book that is an easy read. It doesn't blather on & on with a lot of verbage, she does give some anecdotal, but gets to the point quickly. Some parts are rather funny because they zing you. I LOL at the one about saving stuff to use for the house guest that never comes! Or about how your bedroom doesn't get messy by itself, but by you! It does make you think & realize you have a ton of stuff you neither use nor need nor ever will! I thought it would be full of a lot of New Age stupid stuff but it's not. And I won't be thanking anything like my old jeans, I will just keep thanking God for my blessings & get rid of the stuff that no longer is.

great for getting started!

At the very least, this is a great book to provide some structure for beginning to organize your life. It's not like you need to follow every step - you can take and leave which concepts to apply. In my case, I literally cleaned the entire house using most of what she gives. Very simple and well written. She's got a motivating way of communicating her point as well. I'd definitely recommend :]

Excellent Read!

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book and it helped me declutter my life so much! It really makes you think about everything you own in a new light. Very helpful and a good read.

I love this book so much, I need a physical copy

This book is just wonderful on how to keep things in order. Before this book, I use to clean but I would get really tired because I had to clean up so much. Now?! If it’s a week day and I have enough energy to pick up, I can do so and make it look like I just spent the whole day cleaning up when in actuality, it took me 30 minutes. She makes you realize that we have personal connections with all of our things, whether it was just for a moment or for a life time. Once you realize that, the next step is to realize when it’s time to say goodbye to it. When reading make sure to take notes and follow the book as is, I feel myself way more productive since I’ve bought it and I’m so happy I did!

If the term "self-help" makes you roll your eyes or the thought of going on a play date with your inner tween makes you cringe, then this blog is for you! (Note: we do use the term "self-help" but only because the thesaurus alternatives are lame and "independent quest for human improvement" doesn’t exactly roll off the tongue.)

In choosing which National Days and holidays to promote here at ThriftBooks, the goals are usually reading, humor, learning, awareness, and/or having fun, with an undertone of acceptance and diversity, because books are for everyone. But as much as we wish we could include anything and everything, it's simply not possible, at least until quantum physics advances and we can post in alternate universes. Below are 31 (out of 114 possible) October monthly observances worthy of giving more love to, plus eight weekly ones (bonus!).
