Holds Your Attention

Fantastic Read. Suspensefull and Stimulating. Tackles the question of the muse in art. Where does an artist's inspiration come from ? From example or from some where else ....? All wrapped up in a romantic and culturally and historicly relevant tale of New York City at the turn of the 20th Century. I loved learning through this book.

A delight

I strongly recommend "The Library Book." If you have ever had a great meal at a restaurant and wondered how the chef prepared the food, where the vegetables came from and how they were grown, this book is a wonderful choice for you. Since reading John Fiske's book, I look at significant buildings with a much more engaged thought process. John Fiske is a classmate of mine from Trinity College, which is why I read "The Library Book." Had I not read it, I would have really missed something.

A fine period piece, exquisitely capturing a philosophical quandary and transformation

The debut novel of John Fiske, The Library Book is a work of historical fiction set in New York's Gilded Age. The protagonist, an architect, strives to discover the relationship between art and artist - which controls which? As he observes his partner during the design and construction of The New York Public Library, he notes the transformations, frustrations, and joyful rewards of the artist's connection with his work. A fine period piece, exquisitely capturing a philosophical quandary and transformation as surely as it brings alive the shining yet corruption-ridden American culture of yesteryear.
