Twenty-five faces from the years when one screen held the whole family.
Volume Four of the Legacy Series gathers the performers who filled American living rooms and neighborhood theaters, and turns them into something an activity director can actually run a session with.
WHAT EACH PERSON GETS
Three pages of their own.
The first page tells you who they were, in plain language, with five dated moments from their life.
The second page offers four gentle prompts that move from recognition toward storytelling. The first only asks whether a face or a name feels familiar. The last invites a story in the person's own words. There are no wrong answers anywhere in this book, and nothing has to be finished.
The third page is a full-page portrait to color, drawn in heavy black line on white with large open areas, for hands that no longer grip a pencil the way they used to.
WHO IS IN IT
Ed Sullivan, Carroll O'Connor, Redd Foxx, Jackie Gleason, Mary Tyler Moore, Diahann Carroll, Flip Wilson, Raymond Burr, Andy Griffith, Isabel Sanford, Bea Arthur, James Arness, Esther Rolle, Miyoshi Umeki, Harry Belafonte, Katharine Hepburn, Jimmy Stewart, Gregory Peck, Doris Day, Fred Astaire, Dorothy Dandridge, Barbara Stanwyck, Ruby Dee, Katy Jurado, and Juanita Moore.
A roster built on purpose to cross the room. Westerns and variety hours, screwball comedy and Sunday night spectaculars, the performers who were already famous and the ones who went first.
BUILT FOR THE WAY IT WILL ACTUALLY BE USED
84 pages, 8.5 x 11 inches, large print throughout, one-sided portraits, and a binding that opens flat on a table.
Designed for group programming in assisted living, memory care, adult day programs and senior centers, and just as workable for one person and one visitor at a kitchen table.
A NOTE ON MATERIALS
Colored pencils are recommended. Markers can bleed through and obscure the printing on the reverse. Soft-core pencils work well with a lighter grip.
