The Lszy Genius Way is true genius

Kendra 'gets' me, so she probably gets you too. The ideal is always elusive, leaving me feeling.like a bad stand-in. The over-riding theme she gives is to be resolute - genius- about what matters to you, and dont feel guilt -lazy- about not doing what doesnt. The most impactful.chapter is to Live in the Season, knowing this season wont always be this way. That chapter is a permission for me to walk away from my elderly parents who live with us and our 2 teen sons who came to us late in life, and know that they dont need my supervision for everything while I hit the pressure relief valve alone in our bedroom for an hour or two. Her strategies for rethinking WHY a task is done, and a better way to do it, are the application of being a Lazy Genius.

You will use this book again and again

Lazy Genius Way review I have listened to the Lazy Genius podcast for a while now so when the opportunity to be on her book launch team presented itself I was all in. To be clear I had already pre-ordered the book before being on the launch team, but being on the launch team meant early access to the ebook for review purposes. #readingnerdperks. Anyway, the book is 13 Lazy Genius guiding principles explained in a caring and fun voice. Also, Kendra shares some failures which helped birth some of the principles and then how she has implemented these things in her life all the while being very clear about differences we all face. Meaning there is space to implement these things in a way that makes the most sense for your situation. And these are not just life hacks for how to clean X room in a certain way (although that is in there...Go in the right order), they are sometimes ways of shifting how we see things or define things so that the doing of the thing makes sense for us. I took away many things, I have over 50 highlights in the ebook! The largest practical item I have implemented is what Kendra calls the Magic Question...I'm going to be annoying and not tell you what it is...go buy the book. It's worth it. In case one take away isn't enough I'll share another: Start Small. So you guys none of this is rocket science. It's all very relatable and probably things we have heard, BUT what makes The Lazy Genius Way different is how inviting Kendra is. She doesn't say do this thing this way and do not deviate and life will be perfect TA-DA! No, she invites you to look at your life and see how starting small could help and then gives examples from her own life and ideas for what it could look like AND small actionable ideas at the end of most chapters to begin right where you are. This is going to be a reference book. Something I pull out when I'm stuck because I've forgotten to start small, or the Magic question or one of the other principles. This will be a book you devour at first and then go back to again and again as you start implementing one thing at a time and seeing how it works or needs to be tweaked as seasons change.

A simple, powerful message!

I've been a fan of Kendra Adachi and her Lazy Genius Podcasts for well over a year now. Her advice on how to stock your pantry and how to create a system for laundry were legitimately life-changing for me. Not necessarily because I didn't know how to do either one, but because her words validated that doing things in a way that worked for me (and not necessarily how others thought I should) were OK. So naturally when I learned that Kendra would be writing a whole book of her Lazy Genius principles I could not wait to get my hands on it! Anyone who has listened to her podcasts will immediately recognize many of the words written in this book. Some of the examples discussed come straight from podcast episodes, but now it's like having a physical manual of how to make your life easier right on your nightstand. But, it's also so much more than that. Kendra dives deep in these pages. She understands the struggles that women face every day... to do better, to be better, to provide more for whatever task they're undertaking. She's lived this and she's found a way to get past the noise. And now she's sharing that knowledge with all of us. The thirteen principles she shares and expands in this book have legit, actionable suggestions for how we can begin to make our own lives easier today. Not tomorrow, not next week: TODAY. And in that process of making our lives easier, Kendra also gives us the permission to be kind to ourselves and THAT is the real undercurrent of this book. The Lazy Genius Way is not about making our homes and things and appearance better so that the outside world believes we have it all together. Instead it's about tweaking what we can so that we see what's truly important and accept ourselves exactly as we are right now. I highlighted more passages in this book than I have since completing assigned reading for college courses. I truly believe that I will come back to these words over and over again as time passes. This quote from Kendra truly spoke to me, so that is where I will leave you now. "You're not something to be fixed and sculpted and assessed on a daily basis. You're a person of value as you are right now, and that person deserves your kindness because she is your friend."
