The Last Christmas Leaf

In the distant distant past, in a valley far removed, a large red oak tree has survived for over 380 years and spreading its offspring out to comprise an entire oak forest. The local town has created a Christmas holiday celebrating this tree and its life giving bounty. The holiday of Quercus, meaning Oak Tree, is created and observed prior to the 12 days of Christmas. The tradition brings with it a special shadow box that contains the symbols of the red giant and the Christmas season. A sprig of mistletoe to represent romance, fertility, and vitality. A green oak leaf to symbolize the fresh new start of life. And finally, the most important item, a large red leaf from the oak tree. This red color symbolizes the confidence of the upcoming year and the good fortune it will bring. Without the red leaf there can be no Quercus, no good fortune in the coming year. Without the red leaf only sorrow follows.
A young girl's first Quercus brings with it the task to find the perfect red leaf. But a catastrophe has fallen on the forest and impacted the oak trees. She must overcome the odds and find her red leaf.
