Compelling Yet Varied: A Balanced Review of 'The Lake'

"The Lake" by Natasha Preston follows former campers Esme and Kayla, now CITs, as they return to the summer camp haven. Amidst the scenic backdrop, a gripping thriller unfolds, revealing their shared secret and exploring the haunting impact of buried truths. 1. Plot and storytelling: 2/5 The Lake had an engaging story but the plot felt rushed and half baked. The twist wasn’t shocking and I felt the story didn’t live up to the last Natasha Preston book I read. 2. Characters: 3/5 I felt the characters were both convincing and frustrating. Their bonds and feelings were palpable even if I did want to shake them. 3. Writing style: 4/5 Preston’s writing immerses you in the story. She blends dialog and description very well. She creates a suspenseful atmosphere with skill. 4. Originality: 3/5 I felt it wasnt a completely original stoty but I couldn’t identify why, so I gave it a middling score. 5. emotional impact/resolution: 2/5 While suspense was created with the story, the twist and ending were not satisfying. They were explained, it was just kind of lame. Overall score: 2.8/5 If you enjoyed "The Lake," you might find "The Silent Patient" by Alex Michaelides intriguing. It shares a psychological thriller theme, involving hidden truths and unexpected twists. The narrative style and suspenseful storytelling in "The Silent Patient" could offer a captivating and more adult experience for fans of Natasha Preston's work.

What?

I couldn't agree more, NP leaves ya hang at the end. This was a slow start for me but got much better. 7/10 would recommend.

Another cliffhanger ending from NP.

I enjoyed reading The Lake but not so much the ending. If you like writing style of leaving the reader with their mouth open in surprise and left with questions, then this is for you.

Loved

Loved this book couldn't sit it down but it was left of such a cliff hanger I need more.. But all In all I was on the edge of my seat with so many twists and turns. I felt like I was apart of the book.
