A CANDID LOOK AT THE STRUGGLES OF A GENIUS

Serious students of Abraham Maslow will find every page of his Journals engrossing and informative. Although they cover a period from only 1959 to his death in 1970, they document Maslow's reflections on his self-actualization and motivational theories ... including his remarkable ideas about metamotivations. Dr. Maslow comments on a wide range of other subjects, including biology, synergy, creativity, cognition, and his expanding view of the potentials of human beings. Here you will trace Maslow's ascendency from an unknown radical psychologist to the presidency of the American Psychological Association. Also, he candidly records his feelings about his students, colleagues, and friends in prose that is not always flattering but vibrant and spontaneous. There are rich gems to be found that express his lonely struggles to express ideas to a world that was not yet ready to understand: "I'm contributing what no one else can & what I rationally believe ought to be written about. Most important thing I can do is to write about my ideas about science, my B-psychology, about metamotivations, etc. If there were an all-wise dictator someplace, that's what he would order me to do."
