The Island

It was supposed to be the adventure of a lifetime. A boys' trip away on an unexplored island in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. Billy's wife begged him not to go. She was having nightmares. A premonition that something terrible was going to happen on that island. She was right.

Novel excerpt

It was just after one a.m when the cans on the right not only started to move, they were literally dragged into the forest. My heart started pounding. Helen's words were screaming in my head: "Go to that island and you will die there!"

Andrea stood up and pointed her rifle in the direction of the forest on the right, where the tin cans had sounded. "Wake up the rest of them," she said with a calm, controlled voice. I don't know how she did it.

Just as I was entering the tent, the cans on the left-hand side started to rattle slightly. Oh Jesus! There was more than one!

"Wake up," I said with a low, strained voice. Goran and Trevor shot out of bed. Ted was still sound asleep, snoring. I kicked him in the feet. He shot up.

"What's wrong?" he said, still half asleep.

I couldn't speak. My mouth was too dry. My throat felt incredibly tight. I swallowed spit. "They're back!"
