The Icing on the Cake Matchmaker, matchmaker, make me a match . . . dot com An online dating service is not Michelle Snow's idea of how to find love, but when the Big 3-0 hits, Michelle decides she... This description may be from another edition of this product.
Taken from Princess Bookie My Thoughts: When I first noticed that a reality based romance series was being released, I became really excited! I than went to the site and read all the descriptions of the first 3 books in the True Vows Series! I was excited to hear Alison Kent was writing one! We are introduced to Michelle who is just turning 30 and she hasn't found the right guy yet. From her back-story, I take it she had a boyfriend in college who was a crappy boyfriend and maybe cheated on her. Not many details were really explained about the situation but that is the vibe I got. Her friends persuade her to sign up for [...] In this day in age, almost everyone has heard of [...] or another online dating site and more people use it than we think. I haven't signed up for it (I'm taken) but I've searched the site just to see if I knew anyone who was on it (of course I do). Michelle signs up but is a little unsure of it. Todd, another 30 year old single guy just hasn't found the right girl for him. Yes, he's meant a few girls on it but they were never a good fit for him. So when Michelle emails him he finds out they have a lot in common. They both run, they both worship their families, and they are both motivated people. Todd and Michelle have nothing major keeping them apart. Yes, they do live in opposite cities (only an hour apart) but its relatively easy to see each other. They go on a few dates and become really close. Todd is such a great guy, he wants Michelle to be happy. She wants to open her own bakery and he insists she follow her dreams. He never brings her down. And Michelle, is the same way. She's loyal. Both characters are very independent. They take trips with their friends and trust each other completely. Michelle and Todd had such great chemistry, they were both humorous and had such witty comebacks! Honestly, I didn't know if I would enjoy this one or not when I started. I have a hard time reading adult romances anymore. My tastes have drifted to high school drama and basic young adult books. I've always liked a lot of different branches of books but lately I've been speeding through young adult romance books like crazy and finding myself enjoying them much more than adult books. The Icing On The Cake was very unique and interesting and a wonderful read. Overall: I really enjoyed this one! It was a somewhat short book (under 300 pages) but it really tickled my fancy. Michelle and Todd were both really strong characters and I can't wait to read the rest of the True Vows series. Cover: I really like the final cover! I've seen a few different covers and I like this one the best! Look in the background, cupcakes! Yum! What I'd Give It: 4/5 Cupcakes
Title Says It All

Last week my husband bought some cupcakes at Sprinkles for his office manager's birthday. Somehow this otherwise together married mom missed the fact that in the past five years, we in the U.S. have gone cupcake crazy. She didn't know what Sprinkles was, nor had she ever had a red velvet cupcake. First she asked him how he knew she loved red velvet. His response was, "Teresa, you're from Alabama...of course you love red velvet." Then she asked him how he knew she loved cupcakes, and he answered, "Who doesn't love cupcakes?" Exactly. Alison Kent's The Icing on the Cake is among the first books released for True Vows, an imprint of HCI, heretofore a publisher of non-fiction (how-to's and memoirs). The company's editorial director got together with Olivia Ruppercht, AKA Mallory Rush, and solicited stories from real couples about their romances. Authors who have signed on to write for the imprint start with one of those briefs to create what the company's calling a new romance sub-genre: Reality-Based Romance. And, no, these stories are not like the True Confessions type magazines I remember making fun of at the grocery store in my youth. After all, Kent's Harlequin Blazes, at least those I've read, have a youthful sensibility, and she was among the first to write for Kensington's sexy Brava imprint. Her story here is based upon the real-life romance between a couple who met through an online dating service. Michelle Snow and Todd Bracken, both successful professionals living in the D.C. area, are doing just fine on their own, but wouldn't mind meeting The One. Burned in college, Michelle hasn't had a serious relationship in a decade. Todd's in the opposite position: After a decade-long relationship, he's on his own. Not fully convinced that an online dating service will lead to anything, surprisingly, they are immediately led to each other. Both characters are good people - and good-looking - and the immediate chemistry betweeen the two includes not just sexual tension but great, talking-until-four-in-the-morning conversation. They share some passions, then begin to share each other's passions. This quiet, relationship-driven story features honesty and wonderful banter between a well-matched couple. The cupcake descriptions that begin each chapter, while sounding delicious, form the menu of the bakery Michelle dreams of opening. Todd, being a man, nudges her along, which creates a tightrope that each must walk upon...how Todd can help Michelle while not impinging on her independence, how Michelle can forge a new relationship as well as a business that may fail and will definitely eat up her time. Add families into the mix (hers is local, and provides great support while his is in Ohio, and includes a larger-than-life father dying of cancer). This is romance with a small "r." There's no concocted high drama between Michelle and Todd, just growth of a wonderful relationship in which the most romantic moments include a bakery tour in New York.
